Zoning & Building Code Office

A Building Permit shall be required for all construction and development, including any alterations or repairs to existing buildings or structures. A Building Permit is required for, but not limited to the following:

  • House
  • Addition
  • Shed or Storage Building
  • Garage
  • Porch, Patio, or Deck Swimming Pools
  • Mobile Home
  • Demolition
  • Other Structures

Building Permit Applications are available at the Zoning Office, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. For more information on Act 45 (Uniform Construction Code) that was adopted in 2004; please link to following sites:

Other Permits

Unity Township requires the other following permits:

  • Sign Permits
  • Occupancy Permit
  • Road Occupancy Permits Solicitation Permits
  • Conditional Use Permits
  • Grading Permits
Land Development / Subdivision Application

A Land Development/Subdivision Application is required for the following:

  • Simple Subdivision
  • Major Subdivision Conditional Use
  • Site Plan Review

All plans complete with application fee and necessary documentation, must be submitted to the Zoning Office no later than 10 calendar days before the first Tuesday of each month.

Zoning Hearing Board Application

A Zoning Hearing Board Application is required for the following:

  • Variance
  • Change of Use
  • Appeal from Decision of Zoning Officer
  • Challenge to Validity of Zoning Ordinance Interpretation of Ordinance
  • Expansion of Nonconforming Use
  • Special Exception

Application must be submitted at least 21 days before the meeting date to allow for advertising in the local newspaper. The ZHB meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM.
