Unity Township residents are reminded not to park on streets during snowstorms.  Within one hour after the commencement of any snowfall, any vehicle parked upon any street or roadway must be removed.  The Township may fine the owner of any vehicle remaining after this time.


The Greater Latrobe High School Theater Boosters will present “Winter Wildcat Cabaret” on January 26 at the Senior High School.  Attendees will be served a pasta dinner and entertained by Senior High School students in a cabaret setting after the meal.  Doors will open at 5 p.m., with dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m.  The Wildcat Cabaret will follow dinner in the Center for Student Creativity.  Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students and children under 5 are admitted free.  A basket raffle will also be held that evening.  Proceeds from the evening will benefit the school’s theater program.

The Greater Latrobe Senior High School Theater Boosters is comprised of parents and others whose goal is to make the entire theater experience rewarding and fun for all involved – cast, crew and patrons alike.  All fundraising efforts are used exclusively to support students involved in the Fine Arts program at Greater Latrobe Senior High School.

Reservations for the event are limited and may be obtained by calling Cindy at 724-423-7027 before January 24.


 The Saint Vincent Gallery presents "Being China" from January 25 through February 22.  The exhibit will feature paintings by Naijun Zhang with additional works by Hung Liu.  Ms. Liu's works are presented in cooperation with Michael Berger Gallery in Pittsburgh. The exhibit is free and open to the public. 
Regular gallery hours are from noon to 3 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; and from noon to 3 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The gallery is closed on Mondays.  For more information, call (724) 805-2107.


Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve at Saint Vincent College has set its 'Saturdays at the Barn' schedule for 2008. The programs, held on the first Saturday of each month, are free and open to the public.  On February 2, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., "Get Buggy" Insect Program with Debbie Smeeder will introduce people of all ages to the world of insects. Ms. Smeeder will share her knowledge of these tiny creatures that are still present in the winter season. Children's hands-on insect activities and games will be provided throughout the day. The Barn is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

 The Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve is open year-round with the trails open from dusk to dawn. From November to March, the Barn hours are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Saturday of the month only; and is closed Sundays and Mondays.  For more information, contact Angela Belli, Environmental Education Program Director, at 724-537-5284 or e-mail her at angela.belli@email.stvincent.edu.


The closing event for the Centennial Celebration of the Westmoreland County Courthouse will be held on January 26 from 1 to 4 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.  Included in the day’s festivities will be courthouse tours, dome tours – weather permitting – complimentary refreshments, strolling musicians and commemorative book sales of the “American Courthouse 1907-2007.”  The Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Inc. juried art exhibit will be closing this same day and 60 works of arts by western Pennsylvania artists will be showcased and available for purchase.  For more information, contact the Westmoreland Bar Association at 724-834-6730.


Mark your calendars – Crabtree Volunteer Fire Department will hold their Sixth Annual Cash Bash & Nite at the Races on February 23 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Marian Hall in Crabtree.  Each $20 ticket includes admission, cash drawings every 20 minutes, food buffet and beverages.  Horse races will be run in between cash drawings.  Additional raffles will also be held.  Must be 18 for admission.   For tickets and information call 724-837-2231 or 724-838-7734.


Adams Memorial Library invites you to join them for the “Rebirth of a Railroad Station.” The Ligonier Valley Railroad Association will present Darlington Station” on February 12, 6 p.m., at the Adams Memorial Library in Latrobe.  The program will highlight the heydays of the railroad and Idlewild Park, the station as it was found, the station as it is today and how the transformation and renovation took place.  For more information or to register, call 724-539-1972.

 Tuesday, January 29 – Fascination Station (10 to 11 a.m.), Little Treasures (11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Bright Beginnings (12:15 to 1 p.m.), Pleasant Unity Fire Hall (1:45 to 2:45 p.m.), Mt. View Specialty Care Center, Sand Hill Road (3 to 3:45 p.m.), St. Benedict Church, Marguerite (4 to 5 p.m.) and Naser’s Market (5:15 to 6:15 p.m.).
